With some 10,000 members, the Jewish community of Miskolc was one of the largest of the country before the Holocaust. Local authorities designated the location of the ghetto on 9 May 1944 and law enforcement began to confine Jews to the designated area on 11 May. Erzsébet Wertheimer and Béla Hauser got married on this very day on the courtyard of the Kazinczy Street synagogue. The administration of the community recorded the event in the document shown in the image. With three transports, the Jews of Miskolc were deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp between 12 and 15 June.
